Mentee Onboarding Process

Become a Mentee

At Fishers Youth Initiative (FYI), we believe every young person deserves guidance, support, and opportunities to thrive. Our mentorship program connects motivated youth with caring mentors who provide encouragement, life skills, and career insights to help them navigate their futures with confidence.

1

Student Recommendation

FYI accepts recommendations for students in grades 3-11. Student is recommended to the program via the student recommendation form. Often this recommendation comes from a teacher, school counselor, or parent, but students are welcome to self-refer as well.

2

Complete FYI Guardian Application

When a recommendation form is received, the parent and/or legal guardian will receive an email asking for some basic information to be completed to register their student for FYI.

3

Complete of Student Application

Once guardian consent is received, a FYI team member will work with the mentee to complete a student application. The mentor application is the main tool used to create a thoughtful, strong match between mentor and mentee.

4

Meet Your Mentor!

FYI will use the student recommendation form and application to make the best match possible with a mentor. We’ll help set up your weekly one-on-one meetings (30-45 minutes in length) with your mentor at your school.
